William Thornton and Elizabeth Stell
I had made an earlier post about the Thornton's being on a ship, My apologies, I had the wrong family. It was the Davis family that Mary Ann Thornton married into that made the boat trip.
The following is a letter from my mother to me telling me some of what she knew and had researched on her family lines.
"Old William Thornton was found in 1850 census, Randolph Co GA; 1860 Winn Parish, LA, 1870 Lafayette Co, AR. He is supposed to be buried at Sylverino Cemetary on Hwy 71 s of Texarkana, also Fredrick and William. There are no markers except large stones that got removed. So no one knows where the graves are.
Fredrick (Fed) is found in 1880 Miller Co AR Census with wife Marcella and Children. He may have been in LA in 1870, and may have had a previous marriage. According to 1880 Census his oldest child was born about 1868. He may also have been a civil war soldier.
Marcella is listed in 1900 Miller County census with 2 children. I don't know how many lived to be grown.
Children were William Leonard, b. LA
Mary Ann, James W., France/i/s, in 1880 census. Wesley and Wiley living at home in 1900 census.
Wesley may have married married Maud Peavy, records show Wesley 21 - Maud 18 married 30 May 1903 Bool L page 383 Miller Co AR.
1880 Miller Co AR Beech township William D. found with wife Litha. I have no way of knowing if this is our William but age fits. Children are William, can't make out initial but could be W and I think it might stand for Wesley. -A girl- Nellie L. and Daniel. Also Laura V. that is first child listed in census.
William W.? could be the one that married Alice Sams.
Marriage Records shows Wesley Thornton age 25 - Alice Sams age 21 married married 15, 1901.
1910 census Miller Co Sulpher Twp
Thornton, William W. age 34
Alice30 married 9 years mother of 4/3 liv Lester 8, Inez 6, Elmer 5
Miller Co Marriage records show Inez Thornton age 18 - C. E. Lannon 2420 may 1922 - age fits perfect.

Almost all the Thorntons are buried at Sylverino except Grandmother Mary Ann, who is buried at Concord (Cem) and Elizabeth J. Geralds, also Concord (Cem).
Wiley Mayfield II and Patrick were never married as far as I know. Marvin Odus had 2 children Marvin Odus III and John D. II. He lived in Garland, TX. I don't know where he is now.
Nina and Hal Killian divorced. I know she adopted a son Michael, I think after she was divorced. Michael was killed in a car accident not very long ago, I think this year (1998) b. 6 Jun 1946 Librarian. After Nina retired from teaching she got a degree in Library Science and went to work again.

There were lots of Geralds. Dad (Jo Ed Davis) seemed to know all of them. I can remember one named Mildred. I think she was daughter of John by 2nd wife. Dad went to school to an Everett Geralds. If you ever have need to know their names, I have several. I know nother of Nettie Thornton and Davis Merideth.

If this is confusing to you, just think about what it is for me. And I had to type it. All I can tell you this is part of the descendents of William Thornton and Elizabeth Stell, covering the other children except my Great Grandmother Mary Ann Thornton and John Dallas Davis. I am trying desparetely to get this entered into the db. Email me in a few days and I will let you know if I have finished it and will email a gedcom to those who ask.
[email protected]
Will also post more of William and Elizabeth's descendents to this list.
