I KNOW there is a connection, but with all the John Stells and John Dennis (I,II,III, IV) it is very confusing. Please check the following and see if you can see the connection, aside from the GEDCOM we sent, this is from The Fayette County Historical Society. Crispin says he has already sent our GEDCOM and if you haven't received it please let us know.
"Robert Malone Stell, Sr-Elizabeth Jones
The children of Robert Malone Stell and Elizabeth Jones Stell are: Sarah A.(married Wyatt H Heflin); John Dennis Stell, (married Rachael Carrol); Robert Malone Stell, Jr. (married Ellen Sharp); Thomas Jefferson Stell, (married Sallie Hog and Rebecca Cook. Rebecca Cook was a sister of Hope Hull Cook, who married Martha Ann Sophronia Heflin, a niece of Robert Malone Stell, Sr); Nancy Stell, (married William Harkins, first Justice of the Peace in Fayetteville); Betsy Stell, (married James Fletcher); Polly Stell, (married George Long); and Martha Patsy Stell, (married John Cook, also a brother of Hope Hull Cook.)
Unfortunately there are no dates attached to these names, however I know that these were the early residents of Fayetteville so it puts them in the late 1700's and 1800's.
Then on a later page it tells the Stell Family History(written from the Robert Manson, Walter Joseph point of view:
"The name John Dennis Stell has been a familiar name in Fayette County since the early 1700's, when two brothers, John Dennis Stell and James W Stell, came from England to Virginia then on into Georgia in the early 1700's. John Dennis Stell IV is living here at the present time. (this was written in 1978)
John D Stell III was President of the Senate in Georgia when the capital was in Milledgeville, Ga. His son, Robert Manson Stell, our grandfather, a lawyer, was asked to run for governor of Georgia in 1852 but declined the honor.
Our father, Walter Joseph Stell, (b 1865-d1944), son of Robert Manson Stell and Susan Lamberth Stell, was a farmer, merchant and for many years clerk of the Fayette County Court. He was a Methodist, and member of the Board of Trustees in the church. He was also a trustee of the School Board. He married Carrie Elizabeth (Betty) Gilbert, daughter of John Joseph Gilbert who owned much land in Fayette and Clayton Counties."
It goes on to list the Walter Stell's ten children which is basically where our line begins to really blossom. The descendents are in our file. Please let us know if you can see the connection clearer and if you were able to receive the GEDCOM, if not we will "snail mail" it to you.
thanks, Becky Vessell
