We are trying to locate the family of F/Sgt John W. Stell of 76 Squadron RAFVR. He was killed in a Halifax over Holland on the 4th June 1942. The plane was on a raid on Bremenhaven and was shot down by Hauptmann Helmut Lent. 2 of the crew were POWs and 3 bodies were recovered but not Stell's or Metcalfe's.Stell had previouisly been on the raid on the Battleship Tirpitz. A group in Holland have now located the crashed plane and are anxious to contact the Stell family. There are 2 bodies believed on board one of them the pilot (John Stell).
Unfortunately we dont know where he comes from. The UK MOD are not able to release this information due to the Data Protection Act.
