Great! Thanks for your help! I'm trying to pin-point when John William Stell (the elder) died and where. Some on-line references are indicating they believe it was in DeWitt Co. before 1860, but I'm not so sure of that. Mary Jane's dad and several of her brothers went from Cherokee Co. to DeWitt Co. at some point, because that's where they all died, and I think Mary Jane went with them, not alone. In 1860, all the rest of the PARKs are still in Cherokee Co. I have found a rather interesting trail of references to a John W. Stell in the Civil War, but one of them indicates he may have been from Kaufman Co. This is not impossible, but it would require that John William was still alive in Sep 1861. My cousin, who has also been doing some genealogy research, has found that at the same time John William Stell (the younger) was alive there was another John William Stell in the same county (DeWitt) and I have found multiple references to John Wesley Stell, so I need to prove I've got the right John W.

I started looking for John William Stell's death record to see if it would give additional clues about his father, who I only knew from the 1850 census record reporting his father as H. R. Stell. Since then, I have found that his father was Henry King Stell, but I have become obsessed with finding John William's place and date of death, just to know. I guess you have to be half crazy to even get started with this stuff?

Thanks again! I look forward to hearing from you!
