Name originally was stap/stapp. no one better than the other. coat of arms in Rietstap book Armorial general. Red shield with three gold staffs(stapp from staff). Motto keepthe faith. origin Flemish. Apparently some of the boys left the low countries (Holland, Belgium) and went to England. Later we got out of that place and came to virginia. Then spread all over. Presently our name found in Belgium, France, germany, and holland. Very few in England.
