As you can see from my numerous/previous postings, I am very involved in Stepp/Stapp family research. In trying to track down my own line, I have come accross alot of valuable information on other lines. I will continue to post this information on the Stapp and Stepp genforum boards. I am currently in the Marine Corps and stationed at MCLB Albany, Georgia...a perfect spot for researching the southern Stapp families...I go to the archives on a regular basis, but I need your help and information to sort every individual out. Right now I'm looking at about 5 different John Step/Stepp/Stepps all living in GA at the same time! ____________ Taken from THE GEORGIA BLACK BOOK, Morbid, Macabre, & Sometimes Disgusting Record of Genealogical Value, by Robert Scott Davis, Jr. Note: Source of information is taken from Georgia's two earliest prison records, Central Register of Convicts (1817-1868) and the Penitentiary Book (1817-1871), in Record Group 21-1-5, Georgia Department of Archives and History. #1145; Name: James Stap; Crime: Voluntary Manslaughter; Term of years: 4; When received: 31 August 1849; Sentence expires: 31 August 1853; County where convicted: Meriwether County; Occupation: None; Birthplace: Georgia; No. of sentences: 1; Age: 23 years; Height: 5 feet, 9 1/2 inches; complexion: Dark; Color of hair: Dark; Color of eyes: Blue; Remarks: Discharged 31 May 1853 #1209; Name: Milton Stap; Crime: Assult to Kill; Term of years: 5; When received: 12 November 1850; Sentence expires: 12 November 1855; County where convicted: Campbell County; Occupation: Farmer; Birthplace: Georgia; No. of sentences: 1; Age: 23 years; Height: 6 feet, 1 inches; complexion: Dark; Color of hair: Dark; Color of eyes: Dark; Remarks: Pardoned 3 November 1851.
