George Washington Stepp was a photographer but he was not arrested for embezzlement, he was arrested and sent to federal prison for counterfeitting money. He stayed less than a year. Family story (taken from his youngest daughter in 2000) was the prison warden asked GW Stepp how to make the counterfeit money, GW Stepp taught him and the warden put Stepp on a late night train back to Mississippi.
