The San Bernardino Mountians are about 2 hours East of Los Angeles.
Richard Herbert Stetson, the father died in 1942 of melanoma. He outlived three of his children. His son Richard Nickerson Stetson died a young man of a heart attack in 1935. He had married a lady named Mary. So many same-names in this family. The Richard that I just mentioned that died of a heart attack, had a mother, sister and wife all named Mary Stetson.
The other son, Percival seems to have dropped off the face of the earth somewhere. His name appears a witness on his sister's 1942 marraige certificate, but Mary never mentioned him again in her writings. Other living family members were all mentioned or photographed. I may have found Percival's ssn record showing he (or some Percy Stetson born 1897) died in 1962.
Another sister was Reba. She married the San Bernardiono's first Forest Ranger, Lewis Anderson. Anderson Peak, bear the ranch in the San Gorgonio Wilderness was named for him. Reba also died in 1935, one month from her brother Richard's death. Mary had written up a brief family tree. It shows Reba's date of death, and lists a "baby Lewis Stetson Anderson. No dates by his name. This must have been written by Mary in her old age, because the writing is shaky. I think that baby died in his infancy, but haven't found any other reference to him, and I haven't found how Reba died.
