The English origin of Cornet Robert Stetson has been traced to Modbury, Devon. His family is covered in L. Vernon Briggs, _History and Genealogy of the Briggs Family, 1254-1937,_ 3 vols. (Boston: Charles E. Goodspeed & Co., 1938), 3:858-72.
