Hopefully, somebody out there will recognize my Stetson and be able to help me.
Edwin Stetson b 1848 NY (where there, I don't know), he md my 2nd g aunt Jessie C. Bowen about 1879, most likely in CT. I don't know anything about his par or siblings.
He was 13 yrs older than she. She was b 1861 IL, her parents being James Henry Bowen and his wife Mary E. Huntley.
Edwin may have died ahead of Jessie, because indications are she was later md to someone else.
The Bowen family is well established in CT and that's where Jessie's father came from, those people. His relatives pretty much stayed in CT. But James Henry had wanderlust and hope in things to come and the result of hard work. He moved his family to IL, where their children were b. However, for the 1880 Cen they are found back in CT, with Edwin and another Son-in-law living with them. All who could were working in the woolen mills.
However, James Henry and at least two of his sons and possibly one of the daughters had homesteaded to Nebraska by 1888, when my father was b at Holdredge, Phelps Co, Neb. They broke the sod and lived in a sod house for a time, before having enough money to buy lumber to build a house; they were big wheat farmers and were succesful until the time of the big dust storms, which broke so many families in Neb and KS.
Now, Edwin Stetson possibilities. My mother could remember going to visit Bowen relatives in Nebraska and possibly IA. She could remember aunts, one was named Jessie, another was named Loretta, but called Retta. I have old photographs. My mother used to point to the people in them and name the faces, but being such a kid, I didn't write the information down and can't remember.
It would be wonderful to find someone working on these Stetson and Bowen people. I have considerable Bowen information and would be willing to share.
