Well, I see I have finally gotten through! (The website wasn't working as it should have been yesterday or the day before).
I was wondering if you have tried the very wonderful website of http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/databases.html ? This is the Illinois State Archives Databases. It has much information in it--I personally have found individuals in my family there--actually, I think it is quite amazing! Click on the Global Seach Database next to the spinning globe. Then you can input the name of the individual you are looking for (scroll down to input the name--this will give your every ocurrence of the name found in the databases). Just for the fun of it I have done as instructed above and came up with a marriage date, place and to whom John Steward was married. (By the way, thanks, for telling me who he married as there are several John Stewards). FYI, anyway, I have copied it as follows: STEWARD, JOHN CURTIS, SARAH (MRS) 03/18/1868 005/ 00006220 MACOUPIN
(This naturally is from the Marriage Database).
Until GenForum got their system fixed, I thought of E-mailing you but I knew that was fruitless as you don't seem to have anything beyond your call letters. If you check it out you'll see what I mean.
Wishing you the very best in your search for ancestors, I remain, Neva.
