On Nov 5, 1832, the following appeared in the Court Minutes of Madison Co., TN: James R. Stewart, Benjamin Lee and wife Partheny; Jesse L. Edney and wife Cynthia; and Joseph C. Steward, heirs of James Steward, deceased, were entitled to 800 acres located on Johnson Creek, Madison Co.; they petitioned to have same divided among themselves, which also included heirs of Elisha T. Steward and Anna Hughy.

Note: There was a correction placed in the record later amending the name of James Steward, deceased, to read Charles Stewart, deceased.)

Note: Cynthia Stewart married Jesse L. Edney. Parthenia Stewart married Benjamin Lee.

I am researching the James R. Stewart mentioned above. He appeared on the 1850 census of Madison Co., TN, but moved to Jackson Co., AL, by 1860. I have not been able to learn anything about the Charles Stewart who may have been his father.
