I am looking for information or family members from the Norththumberland/Durham area of England whose last name is either CLOSE or STEWARD. I am also looking for anyone who
has a relationship to the FINN family of Northumberland. My great-great grandmother was Isabella Close who married my great-great grandfather Samuel Steward, Jr. on May 30, 1835? I will have to check the wedding certificate for the date again. Standing up for Isabella and Samuel on their wedding day was Isabella's twin brother William Finn Close and her sister Elizabeth Close Swaddles. Samuel and Isabella lived first in Hartlepool where my great grandfather, Robert Charles Steward was born in 1853. They lived on Albert Street. Four of their sons died, William, John, James and Nicholas. Nicholas was born in 1864 and died in 1866. Less than a year after Nicholas died, the family moved from England to Salt Lake City, Utah, United States aboard the U.S.S. Manhattan which arrived here on July 30, 1867. The Manhattan had Mormon settlers aboard. I am looking not only for Steward and Close family members in England but also Finns. Isabella and William's mother's name was Mary and Mary's father's name was John Finn. Mary married James Close and I believe that the boys who died were named after Isabella's brother William, her grandfather John Finn and her father James Close. If anyone in the family has any information they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it. I would also like to know where the four boys are buried: i.e. Old Cemetery, North Cemetery, Stranton Grange Cemetery and if there is a different cemetery name for St. Hilda's and if they may possibly be buried there. Samuel Steward, Jr. was born in 1823 and Isabella was born in 1826 Newcastle-upon-Tyne, North Shields, Northumberland. William Finn Close died on September 12, 1897. I believe he was stilling living in England. The Stewards were living in Sunderland when they left England and Samuel's occupation is listed as Merchant Sailor.
