James STEWARD, bc 1816 in Ohio, died 1887 in Henry County, Indiana. Married to Esther Oakly and then in 1848 to Sarah Peters. Children of James & Esther: William Henry. Children of James & Sarah Peters: Rachel Candace, Anna Mary, and Esther. James was a farmer and moved to Indiana about 1846 settling on a farm near West Newton.

James STEWARD's father was a James STEWART, bc 1785/90 in Virginia (?). Married to ? (Nancy?) Supposedly in the War of 1812 and a Captain. Came to Indiana by way of Ohio about the time of the War with Mexico. His wife, known only as "Granny", told stories about the STEWARTs and the days when Indians stole white children. She talked about 3 year old Bessie, captured for many years and that James STEWART discovered her and bought with 300 deer skins. He took her home for his parents to raise and then married her at age 17. She supposedly had a locket with the name Candace in it.
Children of James and Granny: Henry, James (above), and maybe Nancy and Mary. Nancy supposedly married William FORD and she told about her father being a renown Indian fighter.

Any connecting information, or stories or help would be greatly appreciated to positively identify James STEWARD of Ohio's parentage & pedigree.
