HISTORY OF NAME

I have been researching the name STIBBS for 30 years.I am an Australian - descended from John William Charles STIBBS - born Nailsworth, Gloucestershire. There are a few family groups of STIBBS'living in this part of the country. My research has taken me back to George STIBBS (TIBBS) c. 1700.
If the name is a locality name then it may be from Devon where Stibb & Stibb Cross are.
I have also visted a place known as St.Ibbs Bush which has a fascinating history. The other avenue I intend following up is that of aStibbe being a German who came into England via Bristol in the 1600's.I heardthat many years ago but have yet to research it.
