re:Looking for Stiff relatives
For 18 years now I have been researching my great great grandfather William H Stiff who was born 1876, Sept. 12 in Middlesex Co. Va. And died 1967.I also was born there in 1956.
William was married to a woman by the name of Mary (don't know her maiden name). She left my Grandmother Elizabeth Chewning Stiff when she was 5.
William married his childhood sweetheart Hilda Hodges in 1950 something at the age of 76.I don't know anything about her relatives either.Or how many children William had with both wives.I don't know if my grandmother was the only child or not.Mary was her mother for sure.
I do know that William had a brother named Burt but am not sure who their parents are.I was wondering if any light could be given as to the relations to this family.
William was also known as Klondike Bill.He was chief civil engineer. There was an article called Klondike Bill and the mystery of the werowocomoco Stones written by Ronald Payne.Don't know the year but I have a photo copy of him and Calvin Coolidge Headley a poleman, and Charles E "Billy" Payne an assistant surveyor near the "Werowocomoco" vicinity, where the mortar and pestle were found in 1952.I also have a photo copy of The Legend of Klondike Bill Stiff "On Honeymoon" with his childhood sweetheart, Hilda Hodges, in 1950 at the age of 76.Great Granddady lived to be 93 I believe.
I can start off by saying my Father:
Robert M. Hogge's Dad-James Thomas Hogge married Elizabeth Chewning Stiff who was born Dec. 16, 1910-I am assuming in Middlesex, although I can't find anything for the Hogge or Stiff ancestors
I did find James's Dad and Mom-George Thomas Hogge married Sadie Mae Vandergriff in Middlesex, but can't seem to find years etc for either of them.
Please shed some light if you can.I would greatly appreciate it.If this isn't the same Stiff family, which I believe it is, I will greatly be thankful.
Brenda
