I have a fair amount of info on Stigall's, my part of the family came from Crab Orchard, KY. Only I do not have an "Iola" in my records.

I was told of a story of one of our ancestors whose wife and family were murdered by thieves, they stole the mare that the wife rode and left it's yearling behind. When our ancestor came home and found his family murdered, he turned the yearly lose, it followed the mare's trail, and when our ancestor caught up with the thief, he promptly killed him, severed his head and place it on a pike in the Cumberland Gap.

If you've heard the same or similar story I would like to know.
