Thanks so much for the Pope CLARKSON marriage to Dully Stigler. I usually look at Clarksons, but apparently missed this one. I have since found Chancery Court records proving Dully Stigler Claxton (daughter of James Stigler) is wife of Pope Claxton.

I have Thomas Claxton b. between 1768-1778. This works all right for Thomas as he would have been at least 30 when he died and at least 20 when he married.

I figure that Jeremiah’s male children in order of age are: Pope, John Peyton, Thomas, and William since that is the order they are mentioned in Jeremiah’s will:

Pope was named administrator of Jeremiah’s will which USUALLY was done by the oldest child.
I feel that John Peyton would be Molly Payton’s son – due to the middle name.
Thomas died
James and William (named as youngest) had guardians appointed.

My only suggestion is that Jeremiah and Molly lived together before they married, or perhaps there was an earlier marriage not recorded making Molly the second wife (but this is not as likely due to John PEYTON’s middle name). It is also POSSIBLE that the marriage was performed but not recorded until later.

Thanks again for your help
