Hi Cousin Jason,

Our first ancestor that came to America was Samuel Stitt. Lloyd Stitt typed some information to our Grandparents (Bob and Mable) in 1972. Lloyd typed that Samuel was the youngest of three children. He said that Samuel was born in Dumfries or Dumfrieshire, Scotland Nov. 27 1836 (but I know that this is incorrect). He was born to William and Agnus Stitt, both from Dumfries(I have not been able to verify that these are Samuel's parents. This is where I'm stuck). Samuel's grave marker says November 28, 1825. I believe that the grave marker is correct because his age at his death was 67 (stomach cancer). Also,he was 54 years old when the 1880 census was taken and wife was 52 years old. Samuel spent his earlier childhood in England and Ireland and his earlier manhood in Canada and the Eastern States.

- arrived in San Francisco in 1853 ( He would have been about 28 years old)
- married Anna Kerr on June 30,1859 ( Samuel was about 34 years old, Ann or Anna was about 30 years old ) Anne was born on April 13, 1829 in Enniskillen,Scotland and died in Napa,ca on Ja. 28,1907.

-moved to Sacramento in 1860
-moved to Napa in 1860
*** started their family in their 30's and had five children.I can't imagine having all five kids at home in their 50's. Began their family with

Agnes Stitt (17 years old -1880 census, (on the national archives they have the name Slitt instead of Stitt , It may be corrected now) at the age of 28 married
John Reilly age 39 in 1892 later moved to Oregon.

Joseph Frederick Stitt- Born Oct 19, 1864- died Feb 1, 1936 (15 years old - 1880 census) Our Great-Great Grand Father - moved to Modesto in 1884- married Clara Mae Garner on May 14, 1890-moved to Madera County in September of 1890

Rosa Stitt(14 years old in 1880 census) at 27 years old on Feb. 4, 1894 she married John P. Wassum (32 years
( I think have a picture of Genevieve Wassum, my
Grandfather Robert Roy Stitt (Bob) said that they have
or had descendents that lived or live in Hughson area.

Frances "Fannie" Stitt(12 years old in the 1880 census) Died from Typhoid Fever on July 21, 1882 at the age of 14 years old.

Mary Stitt (9 years old in the 1880 census) Mary married at the age of 19 to Fortunas Rudolph who was 33 years old on December 25th 1889. My grandfather said that he
heard that he was a very heavy person and died on April 7, 1907 of Septicaemia . He was also buried with Samuel, Ann, Frances, and Mary at the Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. Mary remarried a man named Alfred Wittich

Robert "Oscar" Stitt
