Exactly one year ago I made this post concerning my ggg grandmother Sarah St. John.Since then, I have found out some things about Sarah. She was born Sarah Frances St. John to Hannah Lindsey and William St. John on April 2, 1853 New York State.SHe had one surviving sister, Angeline who married a John Hayes (d 1874) and then a McKay.Other siblings names were William Jr. Josephine and Ann M.they died in childhood and I have the dates.Buried at Green-Wood in Brooklyn NY.
Sarah married twice.First George Lyons ~1873 and had five children with him:Angeline (my gg grandmother), Estella, Alice, Charles and an unknown childs name. After George died in 1885 at St. Katharines Hosp, Sarah remarried to a David C. Price in 1886.They had four children together, Mabel, Walter, Grace and unknown child's name, possibly started with letter V.David beat Sarah often coming close to killing her.Brooklyn Daily Eagle titled "Wife Beating" 5-31-1887 & 6-27-1887.He served only 9 months.Apparently they got back together and lived in the NYC area and Jersey City NJ.In 1910 David hung himself.I tend to think that he did this due to the fact that he beat Sarah, and may have killed little Charles (son of George Lyons)as Charles died at age 5 due to a brain concussion.Sarah lived on to the age of 83 and died at 8:30pm on November 24, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ an is buried at the Flower Hill Cemetery in North Bergen, NJ.She lived at 201 Monticello Ave at time of death. Her daughter Alice Hansen wsa the informant. One of her other daughters, my great great grandmother Angeline Ida Lyons-Pereira died in 1915 and is buried at Green-Wood.
