There are two William St. Johns that I have come across in the research of my ancestor William St. John.
My William St. John was born in May 1808 and is first seen in the 1832-1833 New York City directory. He was a butcher; he married Hannah (or Anna) Lynch sometime in the 1840s'or at least by 1852 according to a CONFIRMED birth date of one of his two known children, there are three other children that might be his in a family grave but I can not confirm them to be his children, the particular oldest child was born in May 1845.
I have not been able to find William's parents at all. I do not know if my William is a descendent of the Matthias St. John family. I have his death date as recorded in a NYC death ledger as:
William St. John:
January 11, 1863 age 55 years 8 months, residence: 240 East Houston St., place of birth: New York, cause of death: Typhoid Fever, cemetery: Green-Wood, undertaker: B. Leith, attending physican: A. Monell.
(this makes him born in May 1808)
Now there is another William St. John who was married to a Johanna Louisa Van Zandt as written in the book of Matthias St John's descendents. It says that this William was also born in May 1808. How can two William St. Johns be born in May 1808? (I know it's possible)
Is the book wrong? There is the 1807 St. John Bible that shows a William St. John born 12 May, 1808. Again this is my Williams birth date according to my William's NYC death ledger.
Any help that anyone can offer to help me on this would be greatly appreciated.
