Richard & Matthias St. John (Sension)
Posted by: ROBERT ST. JOHN (ID *****3418) Date: January 19, 2009 at 08:23:53
  of 1821

I want to connect Richard and Mathias but as far as I know we don't have any documentation.
Richard was last heard of living in Purley Magna in Berkshire.
Matthias was first heard of when he married Mary Tinker in 1627, in Old Windsor in Berkshire.
Mathias moved to London and went into the chandlery business, with his brother James, about 1630.
Matthias went to Dorchester, MA in 1634. His sister Sarah, and the twins Nicholas nd Elizabeth followed him to MA.
James stayed in London. A chandler was a candle-maker but it was also the name for a supplier of equipment and parts for ships.I wonder if the St. John brothers went into that business to equip the many ships used for the "GREAT MIGRATION"?
The twins were born in 1620, possibly i Wiltshire.
The twins were Nicholas and Elizabeth. Richards father and mother were Nicholas and Elizabeth.
This isn't enough to connect the two but it is fairly stro9ng circumstantial evidence.
On an earlier note, William de St. John (Sainte Jean) went to Stanton St. John about 1066. He came from St. Jean Le Thomas(which was at that time called St. John les Mer).
