Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

I would begin by obtaining a copy of your father's birth certificate from the Town Clerk's office. Then after you see your grandfather's name listed as his father try and pull his (your grandfather's) birth record/death record, that will tell you where he was born and possibly his father. Keep working backwards until you can't get any further. Also try Family Search.org they may not be accurate but they should be there.
