The French spelling is Fonterabia. I have found out that the British army went there in 1497 and again in 1512. Apparently, Oliver went there in 1497 with an army that was planning to invade France from that port and he died. John went in 1512 with the Marquis of Dorsett(I think he was married to John's aunt Anne). the effort was a complete fiasco and John died there September 1. They were sabotaged by Ferdinand the Catholic.
I had this infromation in my papers but I don't remember seeing it before. I also found a piece on Richard's brother Oliver that reads like swashbuckling historical fiction. He was a soldier of fortune who fought all over Europe.
Now I am trying to find our what Oliver of
Bletsoe was doing in France in 1437.
