I just looked at the St. John Genealogy website and I wonder why it lists Oliver as Matthias' father. There is no evidence for that anywhere.
We don't know who his father was or where he was born. He pops up in New Windsor when he marries Mary Tinker. He and James have a chandlery shop in London, later.Matthias goes to America and James stays. Sarah, Elizabeth, and Nicholas go to America about the same time. (Nicholas went earlier) They all travel to Connecticut and move to the same towns there.
Nicholas and Elizabeth Blount St. John love in Purley Magna.
It looks like about 20 miles from Purley and Windsor.
Yes I am suggesting that Matthias was the grandson of Nicholas. I don't know if Richard fits in there but it seems possible to me.
