St. John Family Genealogy Forum

I have done a lot on this family. I have had an Ancestry membership for a long time and love it! Orson's parents were Nathan John St John b: 1790 in New York and Molly Comstock B:1791 in Connecticut. He has been listed as both John and Nathan in different census'. They were living in Broome Co in 1840, Bainbridge, Chenango, NY in 1850, Afton, Chenango NY in 1860 and 1870 and back in Chenango, Broome Co NY in the 1875 New York State census. The only sibling I know for sure of Orson's is Nathan. Son Nathan lived with his parents in 1850 and in the later years, they lived with him. Nathan St John the younger never married. I do remember my grandmother telling me that Orson had a brother possibly named Valentine but I haven't seen that anywhere else. I do know there are other Valentines in the family so I am not surprised by that. She also thought that Orson may have been a twin but that the twin died.
I am still working to get beyond Nathan St John. According to Orson's obit, he was born in New Hampton, Connecticut. However, there is not nor has there ever been a town by that name in Connecticut. There is one in New York, Orange County so I assume that is where he was born. The family always said he was born in "York State" so that is further proof. There are a lot of St Johns there. I am trying to get further research done in that area of New York. I wish I could just go there myself. Perhaps I will someday.
I haven't done much with Abby's parents since they aren't my line. I am curious about them but haven't spent much time there. Do you have any pictures of the St Johns?
