From my knowledge of the Stocks, there are two derivations of the surname. The most common is the anglo-Saxon derived STock surname but, in Bristol (an no doubt other trading centres such as Birmingham), in the 18th century, German merchants turned up, also bearing the name Stock. With the first name Berlin in your family, I would think yours were Germans, and perhaps Berlin was their origin. Just a theory. cheers.
