Hello Derek,
Thank you most kindly for your response.
I believe that the Hockley Stocks are not my ancestors - their children do not include Hannah Elizabeth, my ancestress. I have the marriage record of John Stock and Hannah Jones in the parish church of Kingswinford in Staffordshire on 13 June 1857, as well as the birth record of Hannah Elizabeth in Kingswinford on 7 June 1862. On the marriage record, both John and Hannah are shown residing in (on?) Brockmen, or Brockmon, or Brockmin. Residence at the time of Hannah Elizabeth's birth is Fenton Street, Brierly Hill.
I agree that I do not find them in census records in Staffordshire. Hannah Elizabeth marries in 1885, in the US, so emigration took place sometime prior.
On the marriage record, John's father is listed as Jacob, a miner; Hannah's father is Lewis, a shearer. On the birth record, John is listed as an iron shearer; simply as a shearer on the marriage record. John was 26 at the time of his marriage; Hannah was 20; therefore, John was born around 1831 and Hannah around 1837. I haven't found Jacob, either.
All in all, puzzling. I'll keep plugging away at it, I guess.
Thanks again,
Lois
