So it appears that the marriage I mentioned is indeed 'yours'. That marriage remains "unreconciled" in my Stock database, as indeed does the birth of Hannah Elizabeth.
This is very strange. I have tried all the tricks up my sleeve to try and find an 1861 census record for John and Hannah. If they married in Kingswinford 1857 and gave birth there in 1862, you would expect them to reside in that area in 1861, but I cannot find them, nor John/Jacob in 1851 or 1861. I looked at any John married to a Hannah etc.
I looked to see if there were any problem segments of the 1861 census, but the only 'piece' missing is Tettenhall, which is not particularly likely to be a place they lived.
I used to live in that area (Stourbridge) and the place to which you refer is possibly "Brockmoor", just on the canal between Brierley Hill and Kingswinford. It is in the heart of the "Black Country", so named because of the (once) heavy industrialisation. It is famous historically for making all sorts of metal things like chains, nails, and anything to do with iron and steel. It also had a quite large cut glass industry - even today with Stuart Crystal, or Royal Brierley Crystal.
It's difficult to know what else to try. There are not many Stocks at all in that part of the world. There are three main 'pockets' of Stock in the UK. Essex is the largest. Then there are quite a few in the West Country (Somerset and Gloucestershire) and the third largest contingent is up in Lancashire.
Do you have any more on the Hockley connection of Hannah? Is there any reason to believe that John and father Jacob are originally from Essex?
Let me know (my direct e-mail should be available on this site for you) if you want any scanned maps or anything sent to you (can't do it via this forum). Otherwise, i don't know what else to suggest.
