Have been on holiday, so I apologise for the delay in replying to your post, Geoff.
I can't connect your Ellen & my John Stocks, but to date haven't any positive family / siblings for John (a few maybes, but yet to prove).
John's first child Adelaide was born in Clutton,Somerset in 1846. The next known child (feel I'm missing some) was born in Wales 1850, according to 1851 census.It therefore seems unlikely that my John would have been witnessing a Jan 1849 marriage in Surrey.
If I do find a possible link between Ellen & John, as I progress with my Stock family research, I will post it for you.
