Hi! I have information on the Stockley Family. My great-great grandfather was William Stockley. He was born on August 26, 1854 at Swain's Island, Nfld. He died in November 1939 in Gambo and is buried there. On April 17, 1880 he married Catherine Pike. Their children are Robert, b. Nov. 6, 1880, Eliza Jane,b. Nov. 4, 1882, Lucy,b. July 11, 1887, Elizabeth,b. July 18, 1892, Maria b. Nov.26, 1896, and Henry (I have no D.O.B. for him) Eliza was my great grandmother, she married William Henry Osbourne. Both died in 1923 months apart leaving 4 children: Eli, Wilbert, Dell and Ethel. Ethel is my grandmother. She was 3 when they died. She lived with her grandfather William Stockley for a short period afterwards. Henry's children: Hazel, Eric, Donald, Eldon, Gordon, & Harry. Robert: Robert, Kater, Kitty, Harry, Winston, & Fred. Lucy: Bella & William. I don't know about Maria.
Catherine Pike's parents were Charles Pike and Elizabeth Lush. Her siblings were Robert Ash Pike, Jane and Mary. IF there are more, I haven't found them yet.
William Pike's parents were Thomas Stockley b. March 24, 1831,Swain's Island. d. Jan. 6, 1860 and Eliza Wakely b. June 11, 1831. I don't know when she died. They were married on Jan. 1 1852. Thomas and 3 of his brother-in-laws, Daniel, Amon and Henry Wakely all drowned on either Jan. 6 or 7 of 1860. Thomas' parents were James and Susanna Stockley of Swain's Island. (no maiden name to date). I have a list of their children as well, if you'd like. Eliza'a parents were Isaac Wakely and Elizabeth Coward. They were married on Jan. 28, 1823. I have a possibility for the parents and grandparents of James Stockley, of Dorset England. If these are correct they are George Stockley born in 1744 Bere Regis, Dorset, England and Ann (no maiden name) George's parents -Samuel and Elizabeth(also have list of their children) I'm not sure of these last 2 sets: George and Ann had a son James but if it's the right one I don't know. I don't know if George or James were the first to go to Newfoundland. I hope this helps. Get in touch if you like and we can exchange more details. Vikki
