STOFFLET and STOPHLET Research Project

The Stofflet surname is uncommon and its exact origin is not definitively known. Two major families seem to have migrated to the United States, one in Pennsylvania (especially Northampton and Monroe counties) and one in Wisconsin. Researchers have hit a brick wall in determining whether the Stofflets are French, German, neither or both (some claim an origin in the Alsace-Lorraine area.)

To help solve some of these mysteries, I have set up a DNA Research Project with Family Tree DNA for the Stofflet family. Any male with the Stofflet or Stophlet surname is eligible to participate and will receive discounted pricing on DNA testing. The first member (Pennsylvania branch) has sent his test kit, but we donít yet have the results. We will be recruiting for Stofflets in Europe to see if we can find a connection.
