Thank you for your response. You are correct about the David that I have named David Sr.Just a few days ago I saw the 1810 census for Conmaugh Twp, Cambria Cty, PA and that left me really confused about the early Stouders.I am 69 years old and doubt whether I'll get these people sorted out in my lifetime! There are so many of them with the same names.
Maybe there was a David who was a brother to John Sr. because the Hiestand (a Menonite family) family history says that Mary Marie Hiestand married a David Stouder in what is now Page Cty VA and that he was b: abt 1760 and she was born in 1764.If that is all true then this David was considerably older than the rest of John Sr.'s family, which included a David that you point out was not a head of househld in 1800.
The only David I know for sure is the one who is my ancestor and the answer to your question about where he lived and died is that he owned a 40 acre farm in southern Fairfield Cty (Hocking Twp).He is buried in Tarklin Cemetery near his homestead. His tombstone says he was b: 20 Sep 1796 in Virginia and that he died 29 May 1864. He died in his home which was a log cabin which was still standing when I was a small child. He married Catherine Marshall in 1836 in Hocking Twp. and they both lived out their lives in their log cabin.
Their only son was named Jacob (a Civil War veteran)and he was my great grandfather.Following Jacob in my family tree was Carl, Russell, and then me. They were all born in either Hocking Twp or the adjacent Berne Twp in Fairfield Cty except me and I was born in the Fairfield County seat of Lancaster OH.
There was a Frederick Stouder in Shenandoah Cty VA 1790. I have not seen any other references to him on the internet.Perhaps my David was his son.
One other item is that in the 1850 census a John H. Stouder was listed as living with David and Catherine and instead of having an occupation it stated that he was "crippled".
He was listed as 26 yeaars of age.I don't know who he was or anything else about him.
