am looking for information on the STOVER family of Norwich. My grandmother was Phoebe Jane Stover, daughter of Egbert Stover and Jane Bailey. 2nd wife, was Electa Handy. Phoebe married Thomas HUNTER in Norwich and they later settled in Dalton, Victoria, their (Thomas Hunter and Phoebe Jane Stover) headstones are in St Thomas Angelican Cemetary, Cooper's Falls, Ont. Egbert married first, about 1842, Jane Bailey. He was a Quaker & she a Methodist. Egbert & Jane had at least 5 children; Jesse William, Phebe, Gilbert, Minnie(Mary). Jane apparently died after 1853 birth of Minnie. According to Ontario records, Egbert remarried on 4 Dec 1860 to Eleda Handy. They had at least one child, Henrietta. Peterborough Co., ONT In 1851-1871 censuses Egbert with his family are listed farming in South Norwich Twp, Oxford Co., ONT. In 1881, he & Eleda are listed as Methodists farming in Peterborough Co., ONT, so maybe they are buried there? At the library they have a book there called South of Sodom (spelled wrong)it is filled with information on the STOVER family. Also on Quaker Street just north of Norwich, there is a Quaker cemetery where there are a couple of the family members buried. That's all I've found...now my remaining questions: Who were Egbert Stovers parents? Who were Jane Bailey's parents? anyone know which cemetary they were burried at? I'd love to learn more about the Family. Notify Administrator about this message?
