Johann Heinrich Strader, my wife's 5th Great grandfather , probably arrived in Orange County NC in 1750. His oldest son Henry, his grandson Adam, and his great grandson John C. lived in the vicinity. I sought a land grant, but the best I could find was a State Warrant for son Henry in 1798 for 85 acres. Yesterday I discovered the Friedan's Lutheran Church of Orange County NC web page. It was just what I needed. It is packed with wonders, particularly for researchers of early German immigrants to the part of Orange County that became Guilford. It has a map of land grant holders (Guilford Co. landholders prior to 1800) with the dates of their grants AND the creeks and county boundaries so you can correlate the grant locations with modern maps. There are many other maps that will enlighten the researcher about the many boundary changes in NC over the centuries. Johann's grant was 1763 (He used his middle name) though he must have been there for a while. Johann's family attended the Old Brick (Clapp) Church, and his daughter, Anna Margarita married Johann Ludwig Klapp. The later generations attended Friedan's Church (much closer to home).
