The St. Charles (Illinois) Review, Aug. 22, 1879
The celebration of Mr. D.L. Zabriskie's forty-seventh birth-day was a fine affair - and very much enjoyed. Mrs. Zabriskie got up a magnificent surprise for him, and it was a real surprise, too. Not one of those affairs where the surprised one spends several days in elaborate preparation for the event, but a real surprise. There were between forty and fifty guests present, among them: B.D. Mallory and wife, and Mrs. Richard Mallory, John C. Strader and wife and Mrs. Kessler, W.F. Osgood and wife, H.T. Rockwell and wife, J.T. Gallagher and wife, E.A. Bross and wife, Capt. Bosworth and wife, O.C. Baird and wife, Charles A. Miller and wife, F.L. Alexander and wife, Deacon Weed and wife and Mrs. Wilcox, A.D. Kelley and wife, J.P. Furnald and daughter, Capt. Bowman and wife, T.W. Edmonds and wife, R. DeWolf and wife and Mrs. Henry Sill, Mrs. Farnsworth, Mrs. Farson, Mrs. Matteson, Misses Grace and Helen McWayne, Misses Augusta Haseltine and Fanny Giles, Mrs. J.H. Andrus, Dr. Hinman, J.C.Baird, Major VanPatten and others.
