Nicholas Strawser/Strasser arrival date in PA
I am trying to determine the exact arrival date of Nicholas Strasser in PA.So far I have seen 3 different possibilities presented.
1. Johann Nicholas Strass, 1732
2. Johann Stroushaar, 1750
and a 3rd possibility from Switzerland in the 1740's.
I have already heard the claims that there are detailed bible records somewhere that state the exact birthdates and locations of his children as being in Albany twp., Berks Co. PA in the 1740's I have yet to see any verification that these are authentic. All I have seen is a huge circle of data sheets that reference each other, and claim that someone said that someone said that someone said that this ccame from a bible somewhere.
The New Bethel church baptismal record is pathetic, almost entirely dateless before 1770, and irrelevent anyway since the church did not exist before 1754.
Additionally Tax records for PA indicate that there was a Niklas Strass living in PA at the same time as Nicholas Strasser. This may in fact be the Nicholas Strass who came over on the Samuel in 1732.
There is a Land Warrant from 1738 that may solve this dilemma once and for all, however...
Materials that I have seen referencing it are all 2nd hand, they give the name as Nicholas Strasser, Nicholas Strass, Nicholas Strausser, Niklaus Strashar etc... and I have seen 3 different dates.Leading me to question whether the document exists at all or is just hearsay again passed around in a loop without any verification of the source material.
So, I would like to know if anyone has contacted the Pennsylvania Bureau of Land Management which has the most complete land records in the US back to 1680 to order a copy of the original document? Not only would this show conclusivly that the name of the purchaser was Strasser/Strauser or the phonetic equivalent it would also give us a size and approximate location that we could use to verify if it was the same land that was donated by our ancestor in 1761 for the site of the new New Bethel church.
It costs $15 a pop to have them do a search so I would rather not do it if someone has already gotten a copy of the 1738 warrant.I would gladly send a reimbursement for copying expenses if someone can provide me with a photocopy of the original document.Or share the expense of ordering a search for the Warrant.I live too far away to make a trip to the office and copy it myself.
This appears to be the only ORIGINAL document left that can prove Nicholas and family were in Berks Co., PA before 1752.
So does anyone have a copy or are they interested in getting one?
