Can someone help me sort through some info??
I am hoping someone here can help me sort out some information I have received.I am hoping that someone can see something that I can’t, and might help get me going in the right direction again. I know it’s long with lots of information it but I would greatly appreciate anyone’s input…Thank you very much for your time.

Here is some background information on who I am looking for. They are Peter Streiff, born 20 Feb 1831, in Kanton Glarus, Switzerland, he died in California 11 Mar 1903. He married Fredericka FERN 22 Mar 1854. She was born 1834 and died in Dubuque County, Iowa 05 Jan 1892.They supposedly sailed for the US on 04 April 1854.I can’t find a death certificate for either Peter or his wife.Ship lists are not all indexed and so far no luck at the National Archives for a match. Peter is found in the 1870, 1880, 1890, 1900 US Federal Census in Dubuque County Iowa.
I am also looking Peter’s brother Frederick STREIFF. He was born 14 Nov 1841in Kanton Glarus, Switzerland and died in Iowa on 05 Sep 1914. He married Susette Neffe 1864, Switzerland. She was born 08 Feb 1840 in Kanton Glarus, Switzerland and died on 11 Aug 1905, in Iowa. There is no record of either person’s death, except for tombstones in the cemetery in Farley, Iowa. They are also found in the 1870, 1880, 1900 US Federal Census in Dubuque County Iowa. The one child they bore before they left for the US is Anna, born 1869.
My problem lies in the information that I am finding and not finding. I have contacted Landesarchiv in Glarus many times.I have asked information on the man who was said to be their father a Mr. Fridolin STREIFF (1813-1893).There is a record of him, however, there is no record of a Peter or a Fridolin being his sons.I tried for Peter and this is what I received.
Peter Streiff from Schwandenborn 1831 Febr. 16,died in USA ? who married wife #1 Regula Streiff from Schwanden on 23 March 1854. He married wife #2 in the USA, her name is Magdalena Knobel. They had a daughter Anna and went to New Glarus, Wisconsin. They are VERY close but they can’t be the same people, because there is record of this Peter and his family in 1900 in that area of Wisconsin.
The information that I received on Frederick is even closer. They have a man listed as Fridolin with the birthdate of 06 Nov 1841, died in USA. He married Susette NAEF 30 April 1868.She was born 8 Feb1840 and died in the USA. Their children are as follows. Susette (12 Oct 1867-13 Mar 1868), Anna (27 Dec 1868) and Fridolin (19 Jan 1870)
I have asked for information on the other brothers to Peter and Frederick but there are no records of them. And from what I have been told there are no other records of a Peteror Frederick near those dates. I know it’s possible for our Frederick to change his name from Fridolin, but I am at a loss on Peter. No other siblings come close to having the same birthdate…
I have thought maybe Peter was an illegitimate child, which wouldn’t be recorded in the family, church, state records. I know family sources have said these two were brothers, but does anyone think it’s possible that maybe they used it loosely, meaning they were great friends who came from the same place?Or perhaps he stole an identity...I am at a loss.
