Georgie Streit - Kansas - Who was he?

I have a letter written by John Smith (m. Eliza Graham) written June 1900 written to Mattew (pos. Headington) in Geneva, Crawford Co. Pennsylvania.

The relevant pasage follows:

"In the early days of Kansas when everybody had the ague, Mother (pos. Eliza Graham) broke it up on herself and little Georgie Streit."

I'm am trying to figure out who various people mentioned in this letter and how they relate to John and Eliza Smith.
