Hi Cousin Kay,
You are entirely correct that Jacob Strickler was the one, who married Barbara Ellen Slaughter. Check with Michael Thomas Slaughter, who wrote the Slaughter book. He has about 1/4 of a huge book devoted to documents of proofs. The Slaughters came, as Jacob and Martin Schlotterer in 1749 on the Chesterfield into the port at Philadelphia. Jacob moved to NC and fought in the battle of Mount Almance agaist the Brittish--before the Battle of Lexington. His son, Jacob, married Sarah Brooks and they moved to TN. Their daughter, Barbara Ellen Slaughter, married Jacob Strickler. The youngest daughter of Jacob and Barbara was Elizabeth, who was 11 when she was taken by her mother to Washington Co., Arkansas, where she met and married Owen Bryan Ramey. They are my 2nd great grandparents. A small village in southern Washington Co. Arkansas was named Strickler, where the Stricklers lived. That is my family. I was born a Ramey. Owen Bryan Ramey was born Remy in Washington Co., VA to Owen Remy and (?). He died with his wife and another child in that Co, and his brother-in-law, John Rowland filed for custody of Owen Bryan Remy and his brother, Ephraim in 1816. That guardianship paper is on file at the Washington County Courthouse in Abingdon, Washington, VA. Owen and Ephraim's aunt, Eleanor Remy Rowland raised her nephews in KY after her husband, John Rowland died. The Rameys and Stricklers came together in Arkansas. A lot of them were there.Iris Seyfried
