Hi Charles: You should read the book "Marching Through Culpepper." It is all about Frank Stringfellow as a spy in the Civil War. It also tells about his wife Emma Green and her parents and also his parents, uncles etc. You will find it most informative. He is an ancestor of mine once removed. His grandfather was a "Tory" who was on the English side. The book doesn't delve into this, but thought you would find it interesting. Good luck on your quest.
