G. M. or G. W. Stringfellow 1900 census Iowa

Can anyone help me with this. I'm researching for my son, on his father's side. His ggrandparents are Elden and Leona (Stringfellow) Hunt.
I know Leona was born March 27, 1888 in Omaha, Nebraska.
I found the family on the 1900 census I think is hers. The problem is that the father goes by initials only and at some point his middle initial has been written over with some numbers. It is either G. W. or G. M. Stringfellow. And since there seems to be one of each within the birthdate range.... I'm leaning toward G. M. But does anyone out there know for sure? They are in Mahaska, Oskaloosa City, IA in this census. I couldn't get him to pull up with a search under the initials for other census or even to show me that 1900 listing. I found it with Leona's name only.
His birth is shown as Sept. 1845 in KY along with both his folks. And his wife's name is Mary C. her birth is shown as Oct. 1857 born in IA. But both her parents are also KY.
Could anyone that is familiar with this family please let me know for sure. THANKS!
