Strobeck Family Genealogy Forum

Judy,
Yes, the Aboen Bengt Strobeck born in 1804 is my 3rd great grandfather. The story from our people in Sweden is that the original name was not Strobeck and in fact some of the family is known as Rybeck and some go by Bengtsson and Pehrsson. It is my understanding that sometimes when men go into the military in Sweden that they chose other family names because there might be 10 or 12 with the same last name in a group. There was some thought that the family originated near Norra Stro and that is why they chose Strobeck. At any rate, I find it all very confusing. Here in the United States, there seem to be predominantly the German Strobeck line who settled on the East Coast (most around Pennsylvania) and there are some in Michigan....and then our Swedish Strobecks who came to Minnesota. There is a really fasicnating website that one of the German Stobecks started -- His name is Joachin. His website is www.strohbeck.com and he has tons of info. on the Strobeck/Strohbeck and various other spellings.
