Strodes / Strouds of Somerset & Pennsylvania
Thru research, mostly on-line, I've discovered that I apparently have two Strode lines which lead back to Col. William STRODE, MP (1589-1666) who lived in Somersetshire. The Strode nearest to me in generational counting is Margaret STRODE (b 1722/23) who m George PASSMORE; they lived and died in Chester Co., PA and were Quakers.On-line sources give Margaret's father as either John STRODE or John STROUD, and the his father is usually given as George STRODE (usually said to be b 1654).Some sources have this George's father as Col. William (the MP), others have Edward STRODE (m Joan GUNNING) as father and the Col. as grandfather.
Does anybody know of documentation of any sort that would confirm either ancestral line for Margaret?
The other STRODE line gets no closer to me than the Col.'s daughter Joan (or other spellings) who m Thomas MENDENHALL (lived & died in England; thru the LEWIS, NEWLIN and PUSEY families they descend to a PASSMORE a generation or two after George and Margaret, and they were all Quakers). And I've read one on-line source that has her father as being not Col. William but rather an Anthony STRODE.
Does anybody have documentation that shows which Strode is Joan's father?I'll be grateful for any help, because these Strodes fascinate me.Especially Col. William the MP.He and his chlidren lived during the time of England's Civil War, the Commonwealth and the Restoration -- a troubled era of the country's history.
