Since your George said both his parents were born in New York, I think there is a good possibility he was the son of Ezra and Amelia Stroud, who settled in neighboring Fillmore Co., Minnesota.Their census records varied, but they did show a George close to the age of yours.Their children's names, ages and birthplaces weren't consistant between censuses.
In 1880 they were indexed as Ezra and Permilia Strond and had an 18 year old George. In 1870 they were Ezra and Amelia Stroud and had a 10 year old George.I think they were Israel and Amelia indexed in 1860 in Union, Allamakee Co., Iowa, but were actually the first family listed in Waterloo in the same county.
Ezra was probably the son of John H. Stroud who settled in Harmony, Chautauqua Co. New York, and grandson of Thomas Stroud who eventually settled in Onondaga Co. NY.I haven't found any absolute proof that the Ezra who was the son of John H was the same Ezra who settled in Minnesota.
