I have the ancestry of your Wilber Rowe STROUP:

plus genealogy of his siblings and other kin at:

Wilber descends from Thomas STROPE of Greene Co., PA, on this line:

Thomas STROPE (1760/65-1848) & Wife-1: Ann? __?__
_ John STROUP (1797-1877) & Harriet __?__
__ Samuel STROUP (1837-1927) & Elizabeth MARSH
___ Wilson Frank STROUP (1868-1959) & Minnie Leota HIGGINS
____ Wilber Rowe STROUP (1913-1995)

I strongly believe the STROPEs of Greene Co., PA, descend from the STROPEs of Bradford Co., PA, who are descendants of Johannes STRAUB, 1710 immigrant to New York. Johannes is the earliest STRAUB known to have immigrated to the U.S. His surname immediately converted to STRAUP, then STROUP, then STROPE. Most descendants are STROPE, but some remained STROUP -- and some converted back to STROUP from STROPE.

If either of Wilber's sons is alive or has a son living, one of them could be DNA tested to prove his connection to Johannes STRAUB. We already have a descendant of Johannes tested, so there'd be no waiting. You'd have your answer as soon as your results returned.
