John H. STROUP (b. ca. 1775), son of Jacob STROUP & Nancy (HAMBRIGHT) RHYNE and husband of Barbara MASTERS, is said to have died 30 Apr 1851 and to be buried in the "Stone-Hagar" Cemetery on the Henderson Clark Farm in Gaston Co., NC. The problem is that I cannot find John after the 1830 census of Lincoln [now Gaston] Co., NC. Was his tombstone mis-read? Did he die in 1831? It's very easy to mis-read 3 vs. 5. A death in 1831 is more plausible given his age.
