DNA testing shows that descendants of Jacob STROUP of Lincoln/Gaston Co., NC, are tight genetic matches with descendants of Johann Pieter STRAUB, the 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia. The most logical explanation is that the Jacob STROUP of NC is the missing son, Jacob, who is known to have accompanied Johann Pieter and his wife in 1733. In other words, that Jacob of NC is not a grandson of Matthias STROOP, the 1687 immigrant to Maryland.
There is an added complication for those who descend from Jacob of NC through his son, Adam, because a descendant of Adam does not match two other descendants of Jacob. Somewhere between this individual and Adam is an "NPE," a non-paternal event (i.e., a hidden adoption or illicit paternity). How many of Adam's descendants have this NPE is as yet unknown.
I would like to urge you to be tested to find out with whom you match.
