Hi Robert-
I have not spent much time in the very early Strout- all I have is from Family Tree Maker Disc #10 family #735-
the first one mentioned is
James Strowte-b. some time after 1542 in Elgoshayle
his son Anthony Strowte- b. after 1579 married on 23 June, 1631 to Mary Olyver in
Egloshayle(spelling?), Cornwall-
their son Christopher Strout b. ? m. 2 Dec, 1680 in Marblehead, Mass. to Sarah Pike(Picke)- my info says he came to Provincetown first and Sarah was of Marblehead. I have also seen the name spelled Stroud( among other variations)
I had no idea what the celtic name means- there are a lot of celtic site on-line- maybe one of them would help.
I was over in England doing research on the Jordan family but didn't have any info on my Strout or Sylvester lines to do any useful research.
Lynne A. Jones
