Stroziers
Strozier is a corruption of the German Stroher
(the German spelling puts the 'two dots' over the
'o' to put the "ur" sound in Strother). Brothers,
Peter and Hans Adam Stroher arrived from the
Lower Rheinland at port Philadelphia and went on
to Dover Township, York, PA.Hans Adam's son
Peter left for North Carolina in the 1750s and
took land in Rowan Co., NC. he married Margaret
Dozier there in the 1760s and they moved on
to SC for a short time there until they took
land in Wilkes Co, GA.Peter and Margaret are
both acclaimed Revolutionary War Patroits.
How do we know this? Margaret Dozier Strozier
filed her claim for Peter's pension in 1839 at
the age of 99.She is buried in a family cem.
at Odessadale, GA (4 miles west of Greenville,
in Merriwether County.
ps: Of interest the Strayers of the Mid-West
is another corruption on our Stroher
ancestral name (as so many German surnames
are).
